Year 6 visit to the University of Portsmouth, June 2015

Early in the school year we will make contact to arrange a date for your Year 6 visit through the UP for Juniors contact at your school.

Your visit lasts a whole day at the University starting at 9.30 am and finishing at 2.45 pm.

Our Mini-University Experience is packed full of fun, interactive activities including a mini-lecture, a walking tour of University buildings and a fully gowned graduation.

Once your booking is made you will be emailed all the booking forms in early Spring. These need to be returned to us by the end of April, no later.

Please take note of the following.

  • Walking tour groups: children need to be divided into groups of six to eight with an adult from your school for each group.
  • Walking tours take place even if it is raining so please make sure children have a coat if it is inclement or a hat and suncream if it is hot.
  • In the afternoon activities take place in larger groups, these may be class groups or large groups depending on your number of children.

These sessions take place at different times of the year, but predominantly after SAT’s in May and June.

Year 6 children can visit the University to experience a taste of university life, which supports the transition from primary to secondary school.

The whole day visit includes:

  • A mini-lecture based around an academic subject by a real lecturer
  • A tour of the University facilities in groups of six–eight, run by students. Children see the Library, Halls of Residence, Students Union, Sports Faclities and much more
  • A design your own university campus activity
  • A whole-class graduation ceremony, where children wear a mini graduation gown and graduate from UP for It Juniors

Funding is available to help with transport costs to the University if you require it.

Each year over 1600 children visit the University for Year 6 visits.
